Abstract

The territory of the former Roman Campagna has proved to be a complex reality for a long time, the dynamics of which travelled hand in hand with those of the city of Rome. The territory was rich in towers, casali and numerous land units, and it has turned from rural to dispersed and destructured suburbs since the Second post-war period.

This essay investigates the history of Tor Marancia, the only medieval tower in the neighbourhood, in the light of its preservation and using and in relation to the significant mobilization “from below”. Through a Web portal and a WebGIS application, the history of the tower and of its estate, as well as the “territorial narratives” by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood, which represent the memory of the territory itself, are made available.
