La sociologia alpina di Cesare Battisti: un excursus fra geografia, storia e letteratura

Abstract

In questo lavoro vengono ricostruiti alcuni dei principali aspetti del pensiero legato agli studi geografici di Cesare Battisti. Inoltre, ad essere indagate sono le vicende che, attraverso l’aiuto di autorevoli personalità - tra cui Olinto Marinelli e Gaetano Salvemini -, inducono la vedova di Battisti, Ernesta Bittanti, a intraprende la graduale pubblicazione delle numerose ricerche rimaste interrotte per via della cattura e della successiva condanna a morte austriaca. Ricostruire la biografia dello studioso e attivista trentino, così come le dinamiche legate alle sue pubblicazioni postume, permette di contestualizzare maggiormente i caposaldi del pensiero battistiano su temi come l’autonomia, il federalismo e la ricerca geografica applicata, e di rivalutarlo come pensatore di respiro europeo.

This essay deals with some of the main clues related to Cesare Battisti’s thought and geographical studies. Moreover, it presents the events that, through the help of important personalities of the time, as Olinto Marinelli and Gaetano Salvemini, made possible to the widow of Battisti, Ernesta Bittanti, to undertake the gradual publication of the numerous researches that remained interrupted because of the capture of Battisti. The reconstruction of the biography of the scholar and activist from Trentino, as well as of the dynamics linked to his posthumous publications, allows to shed new light on the cornerstones of Battisti’s thought on topics such as autonomy, federalism and applied geographical research, and to revaluate him as a European intellectual.
