Sognando la Kamchatka. Storia, geografia e Prima Guerra Mondiale

Abstract

Il saggio analizza il rapporto tra geografia e Grande Guerra, attraverso il significato attribuito ai “confini naturali”, all’evoluzione delle carte geografiche, agli interessi territoriali del paese e agli obiettivi geopolitici legati all’intervento. Vengono poi indagati i cambiamenti causati dal conflitto sulla percezione dello spazio e sulla conoscenza dei luoghi, sulla conformazione del suolo e sull’ambiente naturale del fronte e delle retrovie; ed è infine studiato il ruolo nel paesaggio come elemento fondamentale per attenuare il trauma della guerra e per permettere ai soldati di acquisire più familiarità con la nuova vita di trincea.

The essay analyses the relationship between geography and the First World War, studying the meaning ascribed to the natural land border, to the evolution of the maps, to the country’s territorial interests, and to the geopolitical goals linked to the intervention. It also examines the changes that came through the conflict on the perception of space, on the knowledge of new places, on the lie of the land, and on the natural environment of the frontline and the behind the line. Finally, it studies the role of landscape as a fundamental element to alleviate the war trauma and to allow soldier to familiarize themselves with the life in the trenches.
