Il Laboratorio GISLab dell’Università di Trieste

Abstract

Il presente contributo illustra brevemente la natura e le attività svolte dal Laboratorio cartografico GISLab attualmente afferente al Dipartimento di Studi umanistici dell’Università di Trieste. Vengono tracciate sinteticamente le linee di ricerca di una struttura ormai quasi ventennale, i cui interessi prevalenti sono da sempre stati il GIS e il telerilevamento. I recenti sviluppi di questo complesso ambito di ricerca hanno portato alla distribuzione gratuita di cartografia sia raster che vettoriale. Unitamente a questo, lo sviluppo di programmi GIS open source sufficientemente performanti ha rilanciato le potenziali attività laboratoriali del gruppo di geografi triestini in relazione ai diversi obiettivi accademici (scientifici, didattici e terza missione).

This paper shortly presents the organization and the main activities of the GISLab, the cartographic laboratory within the Humanities Department of the University of Trieste.
This laboratory works about GIS and Remote Sensing issues for some twenty years. The recent changes in this field of research (e.g., free distribution of raster and vector cartography, software open source with high capacity) have re-launched the GISLab potential also in view of the new academic perspectives (scientific, educational and informative).
