Resumo

The term Geographic Information System (GISy) refers to a set of hard and soft technologies used for managing a map. Geographic Information Science (GISc) describes the underlying science that provides the basis for GISys. The question that has emerged in recent years is how exactly GISytems (which are principally concerned with technological problems) and GISc (which is tasked with using the traditional instruments of scientific research to support the work of multiple, collaborating disciplines) actually fit into the context of scientific work and research.
